Introducing eBookNation

Original and archival work from the Nation Digital Archive of progressive politics and culture

The Nation, America's oldest political newsweekly, announced on May 15, 2013, the launch of eBookNation, a new digital book initiative designed to make The Nation's most notable contributors, past and present, easily available to readers on tablets, smartphones and computers.

eBookNation will feature both original works by Nation writers, and collections of the best essays and articles by America's most distinguished authors from the Nation Digital Archive, the most complete history of independent, progressive politics and culture since 1865.

"The list of Nation writers reads like a Who's Who of American culture and politics," says Katrina vanden Heuvel, editor and publisher of The Nation. "From Martin Luther King Jr. and Barbara Ehrenreich to Hunter S. Thompson, Alice Walker, Tony Kushner, and more, throughout history our contributors developed an alternative narrative that helped shape the national conversation."

The debut title is Gore Vidal's State of the Union, Nation Essays 1958-2005. Gore Vidal was the pre-eminent essayist of his generation, and he wrote regularly for The Nation over a span of forty-seven years, becoming a contributing editor in 1981. This collection exemplifies his critical vision, from provocative pieces like "Some Jews and the Gays" to the famous "Requiem for the American Empire."

"Prepare to have your preconceptions challenged," warns editor Richard Lingeman. "Prepare also to smile or laugh out loud." Read an excerpt at: tnat.in/l1l2H

The follow-up eBookNation title will feature the essays of Molly Ivins.

eBookNation will also host the latest e-books by The Nation's current writers. Among the latest selections: The Art of Controversy, by Victor Navasky; Dirty Wars, by Jeremy Scahill; The Mind-Body Problem: Poems, by Katha Pollitt; Twilight of the Elites, by Chris Hayes; Game Over, by Dave Zirin; The Shock Doctrine, by Naomi Klein; and more. By purchasing e-books through eBookNation, readers are helping to sustain The Nation's journalism while supporting our writers and progressive ideals.

Stay tuned for more Nation selections, now in accessible e-book formats. For further information, please see contact information above.
