SPAN/iUniverse.com offer Innovation in Technology Award
$10,000 award to firm or individual showing best understanding of how to utilize and market new publishing technology.
Technology may be its own reward, but the Small Publishers Association of North American (SPAN) and iUniverse.com are sweetening the pot by offering a $10,000 award to the author or publisher who shows the best use and understanding of new technology in production, distribution and marketing of a book."Technology is changing the publishing world," says Marilyn Ross, Executive Director of SPAN, "and iUniverse.com shares the vision with SPAN that we should be among the first to recognize the opportunities this is bringing to authors and publishers."
The entrants will be judged on creativity and quality of content, design of product, volume of sales, effectiveness of marketing and promotion, and use of technology in publishing and promoting (print-on-demand, ebook, the Internet).
First prize will be a cash award of $10,000, first runner up will win $2,000 and second runner up will be awarded $1,000. Entries will be accepted through September 15. Winners will be announced at the SPAN 2000 Publishing College in Los Angeles, October 20. Judging will be done by five high-profile industry leaders.
There is a $20 entry fee per project to be considered when participant is a SPAN member. Nonmembers pay a $40 entry fee. All proceeds from entry fees will be donated toward a SPAN Scholarship for the college, "BookPublish 2000: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" All packets are due at the SPAN office by September 15, 2000. There is no time limitation on when your project began. The awards will be presented at the SPAN Publishing College in Los Angeles, California, on October 20, 2000.
