Conversations with the Writers You Love
The National Writers Series is a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging world-renowned authors in meaningful conversations in the Traverse City, Michigan area. With the goal "to create a deeper understanding of issues and ways of life that exist within and outside of our rural boundaries," and also “raising writers” with programs that help students express themselves, explore the world through reading, develop their imaginations, and think critically. Since 2010, the National Writers Series has hosted over 200 authors -- including Margaret Atwood, David Sedaris, Jodi Picoult, Vince Gilligan, and Anthony Doerr -- and drawn more than 75,000 people to the events, mostly held at the City Opera House in downtown Traverse City. The events have also sold some 21,000 books through local bookstores.
