Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Greek President Constantinos Stephanopoulos to Open 53rd Frankfurt Book Fair

Greece comes to the Book Fair's newly constructed "Forum" with a wide-ranging cultural program.
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Greek President Constantinos Stephanopoulos, and Angelos Delivorrias, Director of the Benaki Museum in Athens, will be the key speakers at the opening of the 53rd Frankfurt Book Fair on 9 October 2001.

Mayor Petra Roth will speak on behalf of the city of Frankfurt. Traditionally, the Book Fair is declared open by the President of the German Publishers & Booksellers Association, Roland Ulmer.

Greece is Guest of Honour at this year's Book Fair and with an exhibition covering a wide range of themes from its culture and literature - from tradition to vision - it is on show in the newly constructed "Forum". As part of the supporting program, exhibitions on Greek themes are already on display in most of Frankfurt's museums and galleries, including the historic photo exhibitions that opened last week in Frankfurt's Staedel: "Nelly - Dresden, Athens, New York - from the Collection of the Benaki Museum, Athens" and "In the Light of Helios - Greece in Early Photographs from the Siegert Collection".
