Seattle Book Company Announces Express ePublishing System

Allows publishers to convert text-based book to multiple e-book formats
Seattle Book Company, an innovative electronic publishing infrastructure company using web-based technologies, announced today that the company has released its Express ePublishing System(tm) powered by RosettaMachine(tm), its automated file conversion technology. By simply uploading a single text file and metadata, a publisher can convert the text-based book to Microsoft LIT, Adobe PDF, Palm PML, Palm PDB, HTML, MobiPocket PRC, and Rocket-HTML eBooks delivered to their desktop, in minutes. The company's web-based electronic publishing system, ePublishEngine, offers many new workflow efficiencies, production time and cost savings not currently available to publishers.

"We're excited that our ePublishEngine offers the solutions that our customers have been waiting for," said Ted Treanor, President of Seattle Book Company. "We have lowered costs and improved the time-to-market. Seattle Book can deliver all popular eBook formats within minutes, rather than days, weeks, or even months. The publisher is in complete control of the files. We simply removed the technology hurdles inherent in electronic publishing."

The services of Seattle Book's ePublishEngine saves publishers considerable time by eliminating repetitive data entry steps in the life cycle of publishing, proofing, distributing, marketing, and selling electronic books. Typically, publishers of a new eBook will touch the same data more than 10 times using various production applications and website distribution forms in order to acquire, produce, distribute, and sell eBooks in the most popular formats. ePublishEngine's integrated publisher services reduces the number of applications to one and eliminates redundant steps.

"ePublishEngine works with the source files publishers have already created," Treanor said. "A publisher may upload an .rtf file, meta-data, and cover art of a print-ready book to ePublishEngine.com. This saves a publisher time because there is no need to do any complicated markup themselves. Since we use original source files, Seattle Book guarantees accurate replication, which saves a publisher time and cost in proofing an eBook version."

The publisher logs onto their secure ePublishEngine account. Seattle Book Company's RosettaMachine(tm) automates the creation of an XML document and generates the production of seven popular output formats ready for sale. Authors are telling their publishers about this rapid production and distribution system.

"Seattle Book Company is an ideal strategic partner because it is our business to insure that output always meets current eBook format standards," said Treanor. "We are excited about helping the publishing industry grow by increasing the number of available quality electronic books and promoting print title sales."

"ePublishEngine also reduces publishers' risks by keeping costs low. The investment needed to create eBooks using Seattle Book's system is very low", Treanor said. "A publishing company with normal channel and royalty costs using ePublishEngine conversion services, can typically earn back their entire investment by selling fewer than 100 copies."

Martin Eberhard, one of the best-known leaders in ePublishing, is on the Advisory Board of Seattle Book Company. Eberhard is also the inventor of the revolutionary Rocket eBook reader device and co-founder and former CEO of NuvoMedia, Inc.. In 2000 NuvoMedia was purchased by Gemstar-TV Guide International. "I have been impressed for many years by Seattle Book Company's commitment to supporting all popular eBook formats," Mr. Eberhard said. "Their RosettaMachine makes it possible for publishers to produce quality eBooks in the formats that matter easily and automatically. Why would a publisher do it any other way?"
