OFFICERS ELECTED AT ANNUAL MEETING OF GREATER NEW YORK INDEPENDENT PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION

The GREATER NEW YORK INDEPENDENT PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION, now in its 5th year serving independent publishers in the tri-state area, held elections at its annual meeting June 19, 2003. Re-elected as President and Vice-president, respectively, were Francine L. Trevens (publisher of TnT Classic Books) and Norman Beim* (publisher of New Concepts Press). Elected as Recording Secretary was Jane Babson (Publisher of Winstead Press) as Membership Secretary, Xuya Chen (publisher of East Meets West Press) and as Treasurer, Weston Blelock (publisher of Woodstock Arts).

GNYIPA is a group of independent publishers of one or more books who meet to discuss problems and offer solutions for the small publisher in marketing, distribution, design, publicity, etc. This Fall, they will launch a FREE, open to the public reading series in which samples from their children's books, regional books, and fiction books will be read, with autographed copies available.

An affiliate of the Small Press Center at 20 West 44th Street, GNYIPA holds its meetings there the third Thursday of each month at 12:30 in the afternoon September through June. They show books jointly at various book fairs, offer "clinics" on pertinent subjects after each business meeting, including the "bottom line" discussion by Marion Gropen of Gropen Associates in June, Brian Jud discussing unique ways to increase sales and profit in September; a printer discussing books on demand in October; Shel Horowitz discussing unusual promotion ideas in November, Jacqueline Duval, discussing publicizing your books in December and Mitchell Davis of Book Surge discussing printing options in January.
