ibooks & Authorlink Form Joint Publishing Venture

ibook, the first trade publisher to simultaneously publish books in print and on line, and Authorlink, the award-winning news, information, and marketing community for the publishing industry, have formed a joint-venture publishing program to bring more new and deserving authors to bookshelves.

In 2003, ibooks will publish approximately 180 books in hardcover, trade paperback and mass-market formats, distributed to the book trade in the US and in the UK, Canada and Australia by Simon & Schuster. Authorlink serves more than one million unique visitors per year, and delivers book reviews to approximately two million readers through its own and various extended online channels. The deal with Authorlink is the latest in a series of relationships between ibooks and such well-known brands as Yahoo, Poisoned Pen Press, Scientific American and American Heritage magazines.

Authorlink.com's publishing unit, Authorlink Press, will select high-quality new manuscripts from its active membership to edit, publish, and market. ibooks will provide design, printing, additional marketing support, and distribution via S&S.

The joint publishing program will be launched in March 2004 with the first in a series of three mass-market vampire romance novels, DARK DESIRE by Elaine Moore. Two of the three books were originally published in trade format by Authorlink Press. The second mass market book, ETERNAL EMBRACE, is scheduled for release in late 2004, and a third is yet untitled.

ibooks was established in l999 as the first trade publisher to simultaneously publish books in print and on line, focusing at first on the genres of mystery and science fiction. Since then, ibooks has expanded its categories and has published authors such as Arthur C. Clarke, Jack Kerouac, Isaac Asimov, Raymond Chandler, Peter Maas, Robert Pen Warren and Gary Null.
