Recharge Your Life! with Dr. Sue

This Month: Train to be a "Champion of Change"
Having more energy is important not only to make you feel better, but also to keep you healthier. Studies have shown that "recharging" -- whether through prayer, meditation, focused breathing, positive thinking, hobbies or other things that give us energy -- can promote faster healing, increased mental acuity, better emotional well-being and greater productivity.

With this new column, each month we will present a simple way to get more energy -- starting today!

TRAIN TO BE A CHAMPION OF CHANGE
While change adds zest to life, it is also a bit risky. Most of us fear the unknown and can be lulled into a comfortable, lackluster life. But no change, no gain…

  • Change your interaction style…just for today. Push beyond your comfort zone in communications. If primarily you’re a talker, listen today. If primarily you’re a listener, speak up.
  • Risk honest expression...at least once today. Make a phone call right now to tell someone something you’ve been “meaning” to say. For example, “Thank you,” “I’m sorry,” “I love you,” “I appreciate your friendship,” or “ I miss you.”
  • Broaden your learning. Read one chapter of a book on your shelf.
  • Try a new activity. Make plans to try your hand at something that now appeals to you.

A fulfilling life often stems from risking something you’ve got, to acquire something you want.
