OeBF Announces Keynote for "eBooks in the Public Library Conference"

Library Conference to Examine How eBooks Expand Patron Services
“Your eBook is overdue” is a phrase you are not likely to hear from the librarians attending the eBooks in the Public Library Conference on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 in New York City. This one day conference brings together hundreds of leading public librarians, publishers, and technology vendors to exchange experiences and challenges as eBooks become available for library systems and their patrons.

“Millions of readers have free access to best-selling, popular book titles from the comfort of their homes and offices courtesy of eBooks available from their public library website,” stated Nick Bogaty, Executive Director of the Open eBook Forum, the organizer of the event. “The eBooks in the Public Library Conference brings together experts from all over the nation to explore how this phenomenon will be utilized to enhance the mission public libraries share,” he added.

The conference keynote will be presented by Daniel L. Walters, the Executive Director of Library Journal’s 2003 Library of the Year, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. Under his leadership the library has received acclaim for its use of technology, electronic services, and eCommerce. Mr. Walters also serves as Chair of the Public Library Association’s Technology in Public Libraries Committee.

In addition to Mr. Walters, presenters include librarians from New York Public Library, King County Library System (WA), Cleveland Public Library, Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library and New York University as well as technology and service vendors Microsoft Corporation, Adobe Systems, Dynix, Sirsi, and OCLC. The conference website, agenda, and registration can be found at www.openebook.org/library2004.
