Third-generation Chinese Author-Composer Helps Orphans
Half The Sky Foundation and their volunteers give orphans in China a better chance in life. Established by adoptive parents of orphaned Chinese children, the California-based HTS has been helping babies and children in Chinese orphanages overcome developmental delays and the trauma of living in an institution since 1998. By giving these children the much-needed care and learning environment to develop normally, HTS’s volunteers improve the prospects of these young lives. Some of the orphans are internationally adopted but most will spend their childhood in a welfare institution. This holiday season author Liow Kah Joon is donating $2 from the sale of each copy of her book, A Musical Journey, to HTS.
A Musical Journey allows children (and adults) to understand China’s multicultural land, people and way of life. The book includes a CD of original folk music. It was chosen by the American Booksellers Association as an autumn 2004 Book Sense Children’s Pick. This promotion runs through Jan. 31 2005.
Here’s the Amazon link to shop for A Musical Journey. When you buy the book and receive your emailed receipt from Amazon, forward it to mailto:kahjoon@silkroad-childbook.com and receive a Thank You note and the secret link to download Four FREE Bonus Musical Tracks for A Musical Journey. Author Liow Kah Joon grew up as a third-generation Chinese in Singapore, speaking English as his first language. In 1998, he left Singapore for Shanghai, China. There, he rediscovered a culture into which he was born but paid scant attention to growing up in Singapore. This is the first title in a series of children’s books about China he will write.
