Tom Oestreicher`s new book, Present and Accounted For, recently surpassed sales of all other books at the DeKalb, Illinois Barnes & Noble. Published by self-publishing service provider AuthorHouse, this thriller follows four researchers on a scientific quest to discover the fates of 23 lost Civil War soldiers.From Dec. 15 to Dec. 24, Oestreicher sold 396 copies of his book, surpassing thousands of other authors during the coveted holiday shopping period. He serves as an exceptional example of the potential for self-published authors to market themselves - he recently sold 600 copies of his book in just 10 days. His success has also prompted other bookstores in the area to carry Present and Accounted For.
"People call me an author and that is so special to me," Oestreicher said. "I never dreamed all this could happen to me and my story." Set in his hometown of Sycamore, Ill., Present and Accounted For tells the gripping story of how four researchers use modern technology to unravel a 130-year-old mystery. Oestreicher is currently working on the sequel to Present and Accounted For, with a release date slated for early April. The author, a high school history teacher, and his wife, Marilyn, also own and operate Tommy O`s Family Restaurants in Sycamore, Ill.
