BILL MAHER TO PERFORM AT BEA'S ANNUAL BOOK INDUSTRY FOUNDATION SATURDAY NIGHT BENEFIT
Bill Maher will take center stage at BookExpo America (BEA) when he performs to a captive audience of booksellers and book industry professionals in an exclusive, "closed" appearance on Saturday evening June 4, 2005 at Town Hall in New York City. This will be Mr. Maher's first performance in New York City since he performed publicly to a sold-out audience at Carnegie Hall on December 3rd. Mr. Maher will be at BEA to promote a new book being published by Rodale.Proceeds from the comedian's special appearance will benefit the Book Industry Foundation, which is comprised of the American Booksellers Foundation For Free Expression (ABFFE) and the Association of American Publishers Get Caught Reading Campaign. BEA is North America's largest annual gathering of book industry professionals and is scheduled for June 2 - 5 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City.
Mr. Maher's new book, to be entitled NEW RULES, is based on segments from Maher's television show Real Time on HBO, and will be published in Fall 2005. Known for his sharp wit and outspoken views, Mr. Maher is certain to take aim at the various social, cultural and political issues of the day. On his upcoming exclusive appearance for booksellers on behalf of the book Mr. Maher notes: "Thank you for inviting me to speak at this year's BEA. You can always tell where there's a book convention in town because the escort services suddenly get calls for girls with a vocabulary."
"No person, party, phenomenon or institution is immune from Bill's signature combination of intelligence and incisiveness," adds Leigh Haber, Mr. Maher's editor at Rodale. "I'm confident that the audience of booksellers at BEA will appreciate his frank remarks and will delight in his candid humor."
Tickets must be purchased in advance via the BEA registration form or on-site at the Jacob K. Javits Center June 2-4. Subject to availability, tickets may be purchased at The Town Hall the evening of the performance. Open to BEA badged participants and their guests. Tickets are $25 for one ticket, $45 for two and $100 for five.
