"Recognizing Excellence in Independent Publishing"

The "IPPY" Awards, launched in 1996, are designed to bring increased recognition to the deserving but often unsung titles published by independent authors and publishers. Established as the first awards program open exclusively to independents, over 1000 "IPPYs" have been awarded to publishers throughout North America. The Awards recognize Ten Outstanding Books of the Year in categories such as Most Inspirational to Youth and Most Likely To Save the Planet, and to a winner and two finalists in 55 different categories, ranging from non-fiction categories like Animals/Pets and Psychology to fiction categories like Multicultural and Horror. This year we saw continued emergence of quality publishing from independents around the world.

IPPY Awards 2005 - Final Call for Entries

"Recognizing Exellence in Independent Publishing"
TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. - The ninth annual Independent Publisher Book Awards, conducted to honor the year's best independently published titles, will accept entries until April 15, 2005, for books with 2004 copyrights or that were released in 2004.

The 2004 Awards attracted books from over 1300 publishers around the world; from all 50 U.S. states, nine Canadian provinces, the Philippines, and 12 foreign countries. The 2004 Awards saw a continued increase in quality and diversity – entrants come in all sizes and from all walks of life; Religion and Spirituality entries came from priests, nuns, protestant ministers, rabbis, and Buddhist monks.

The Independent Publisher Book Awards were conceived as a broad-based, unaffiliated awards program open to all members of the independent publishing industry. The awards are intended to bring increased recognition to the thousands of exemplary independent, university, and self-published titles produced each year. No membership is required, and we don’t accept advertising in Independent Publisher Online, so there are no conflicts of interest. Corporate-owned publishers that consider themselves independent are eligible if they function autonomously and publish fewer than 50 titles per year.

The IPPY Awards reward those who exhibit the courage, innovation, and creativity to bring about change in the world of publishing. Independent spirit and expertise comes from publishers of all sizes and budgets, and we judge books with that in mind. Entries will be accepted in 58 categories, including three new ones this year:
* Anthologies
* Religious Fiction
* True Crime
Also new this year: 5-10 semi-finalists will be named in each category prior to announcement of final results.

Best of luck to all IPPY Awards participants!
